Calendula Research Background
Calendula officinalis, also known as pot marigold, has a long history of topical use and has attracted considerable scientific interest for its phytochemistry and effects in experimental skin and wound models. The research summarized below concerns Calendula extracts or experimental preparations generally. These studies did not test Calendula Rescue Stick itself and should be understood as ingredient-level research context rather than evidence that this cosmetic product diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents a medical condition.
Ejiohuo, Folami & Maigoro (2024) published a review of Calendula research focused particularly on wound-healing and drug-delivery applications. The authors describe Calendula as a source of numerous bioactive classes, including steroids, terpenoids, triterpenoids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, carotenoids and essential oils, and review laboratory, preclinical and clinical research involving the plant.
Fonseca et al. (2010) investigated a hydroalcoholic Calendula flower extract in laboratory antioxidant assays and in a UVB oxidative-stress model involving hairless mice. The extract showed dose-dependent antioxidant activity in vitro, while oral administration in the animal model affected glutathione levels and UVB-associated matrix-metalloproteinase activity. Because the study used a hydroalcoholic extract, oral dosing and an animal model, its findings should not be interpreted as demonstrating equivalent effects from the calendula-infused olive oil in this stick.
Hormozi et al. (2019) examined ethanolic and methanolic Calendula officinalis extracts in mouse embryonic fibroblast cells. Under the experimental conditions studied, selected concentrations increased fibroblast proliferation and altered expression of the growth factors TGFβ1 and bFGF. This was an in-vitro cell study using different Calendula preparations rather than a human trial or a test of Calendula Rescue Stick.
Kiaei, Hajimohammadi & Hosseini (2018) investigated Calendula extract formulated as a nanoemulsion. The researchers evaluated several formulations and reported effects in an experimental wound model involving albino rats, together with anti-inflammatory findings associated with the Calendula nanoemulsion. This specialized nanoemulsion differs substantially from a traditional oil infusion and beeswax balm, so the study is retained as broader Calendula research rather than evidence of a specific effect from this product.
A comprehensive review by Zournatzis et al. (2025) likewise documents Calendula’s extensive phytochemistry, including lipids, terpenoids, carotenoids, coumarins and quinones, and surveys a broad range of experimental and clinical literature involving the plant. The reviewed preparations, concentrations and routes of use vary considerably, so these findings should not be generalized directly to the finished Rescue Stick.
