Product Description

Astragalus, also known as huáng qí or milkvetch, is most commonly known for its use in traditional Chinese medicine. Astragalus is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for a variety of ailments and functions. It is traditionally valued for supporting the heart and healthy innate cellular defense. Astragalus is known to stimulate the spleen, liver, lungs and circulatory and urinary systems. It has also been used to treat arthritis, asthma and nervous conditions as well as to lower blood sugar and pressure. Astragalus can be used as a general tonic to improve vitality and overall health.

Use: Astragalus is typically prepared as tea, encapsulated, or used as an extract. Most authorities on traditional Chinese medicine recommend taking 9 to 15 grams (3 to 5 tablespoons), of the whole herb per day as a decoction, made by boiling the ground, dried root in water for a few minutes and then brewing the tea. Astragalus is sometimes also given as an injection or by IV in a hospital setting.

Research shows the following oral doses to be useful for specific conditions:
Congestive heart failure: 2–7.5 grams of powdered astragalus twice daily for up to 30 days, along with conventional treatment (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27269392/).
Blood sugar control: 40–60 grams of astragalus as a decoction for up to four months (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27269392/).
Kidney disease: 7.5–15 grams of powdered astragalus twice daily for up to six months to reduce the risk of infections (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22513919/).
Chronic fatigue syndrome: 30 grams of astragalus root made into a decoction with several other herbs (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19702080/).
Seasonal allergies: Two 80-mg capsules of astragalus extract daily for six weeks (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19504468/).

Based on the research, oral doses of up to 60 grams per day for up to four months seem to be safe for most people. However, there are no studies to determine the safety of high doses in the long term.

Mix 1 tsp per day into water, juice, or smoothies, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner

A small yummy connection

YUM ↔ YAM — Anahata, the heart chakra, is traditionally represented by a twelve-petaled lotus and associated with the seed mantra YAM (yam). YUM and YAM are not the same word, but the sound echo offers a fitting little connection to heart, nature and community.

A gentle synthesized meditation drone to accompany the spoken YAM mantra; not a traditional fixed chakra frequency.
