A Primer on Tissue Salts (aka cell salts, biochemic salts, or Scheussler cell salts)
Named after their founder Doctor Wilhelm Schüssler, tissue salts are not actually salts but rather mineral compounds that he discovered are the main constituents of the human body. The salts are prepared in low potency dilutions in a method somewhat similar to homeopathic remedies, although a measurable amounts of the original mineral constituents still remain (unlike homeopathics, which are often diluted beyond the measurable threshold). The concept is that the the low dilution allows the micro-dosed minerals to pass through compromised cell walls to correct specific mineral imbalances and support cellular nutrition, without the toxicity risks associated with bulk mineral supplementation.
Like homeopathic remedies which are usually administered under the tongue or dissolved in a very small amount of water, tissue salts are easily absorbed through the mucous membranes in the mouth, bypassing most of the digestive system. They are the ideal way to bring the body back into nutritional balance, as they are:
- Gentle
- Absorbed rapidly
- Natural
- Pleasant tasting
- Convenient to carry
- Non-toxic and non-addictive
- Safe to use with other medicines
- Suitable for broad, general health complaints (unlike standard homeopathy that requires more precise symptom matching).
